12 Astrological Symbols That Painted On Human Bodies

From November 2014 to May 2015 I sculpted, body painted and photographed 60 models–including myself– into the 12 symbols of the zodiac.I view this work as my way to examine the impact of astrology in a current world in a modern aesthetic, while maintaining the sensibilities, skills and stories of crucial works of art from thousands of years before me.

I spent anywhere between two to nine hours positioning and painting my models with non-toxic, water based body paint and airbrush paint. Once painting was complete, I had to meticulously reposition everyone to take the final photo.

Each painting I make only exists for a few spirited moments before the models are out of place and are on their way home on the subway, covered in paint, with only an image on a camera and a small amount of video footage to document what we created.

Sam and Charlie in Bushwick. Charlie and his brothers were rescued by @tinydarsky when she noticed someone giving the kittens away in a Dallas grocery store parking lot. Worried for their safety she had them flown out to NYC where she found them loving homes.

Giuliana and Yoncé in Williamsburg. Giuliana found Yoncé when she was a kitten, alone and shivering at a coffee shop in the middle of winter.

Natalie and Tela in Bushwick. Natalie is a clothing designer and cat mom to 5 cats! She found Tela 11 years ago living under her old house in Savannah, and protected her from a cat-hating landlord.

Terrifying Hyper-Realistic Sculpture Of A Fallen Angel By Chinese Artist Duo

Beijing artists Sun Yuan and Peng Yu have been known to create installations using real cadavers or human fat tissue, and though their newest creation does not include these macabre parts, it’s so realistic and unsettling that it might as well. This realistic sculpture, titled “Angel,” depicts a fallen angel in the form of an old woman, her wings devoid of feathers, that seems to be sleeping or perhaps dead. It was made from silica gel, fibreglass, stainless steel, and woven mesh.

The artist statement on their website cryptically reveals the project’s purpose: highlighting the tension and transition between the supernatural and the mundane. The angel, a transcendent being, has become powerless, unable to carry out God’s will, or to help those who believe in its existence.

According to biblical sources, Cherubim and Seraphim are the only types of angels that have wings (Exodus 25:20, Ezekiel 10, Isaiah 6). Hebrews 1:14 describes angels simply as spiritual beings; therefore, it is most correct to say that only some angels are winged.
